1Once upon a time, in a kingdom very far away,
2there lived a king and a queen.
3The king was handsome and kind.
4Everybody loved him.
5But the real ruler of the kingdom was his wife... the queen.
6Before she became queen, she worked in the castle kitchen.
7She was very poor.
8But she was also very beautiful, and funny,
9and very good at Scrabble.
10So the king fell in love with her, and married her.
11The king loved the queen very much.
12But the queen was always afraid that the king would meet someone more beautiful.
13Luckily, the queen had a magic mirror.
14The mirror saw everything and knew everything.
15Every day the queen looked at herself in the mirror, and asked:
16"Magic mirror on the wall, who is the most beautiful of all?"
17And the mirror replied: "You are, my Queen!"
18"You are the most beautiful woman in the whole world."
19The queen was happy.
20She knew there was nobody in the world as beautiful as her.
21But one day everything changed.
22The queen stood in front of the mirror and asked her usual question.
23"Magic mirror on the wall, who is the most beautiful of all?"
24And the mirror replied:
25"You are very beautiful, my Queen."
26"But the most beautiful woman in the world is... Snow White."
27The queen was shocked.
28"Who is this Snow White?" she asked the mirror.
29Snow White works in the castle kitchen.
30She has hair black as night, lips as red as roses,
31and skin as white as snow.
32As of... 8 am this morning,
33she is a wee bitty bit more beautiful than you.
34"ARRRGGHH!!" yelled the queen.
35She stomped her feet.
36She pulled her hair.
37Then she sat down and sobbed.
38"I will lose everything!"
39The queen was afraid,
40and that fear turned her heart cold and hard.
41She called a trusted hunter to her room.
42"Find the girl, Snow White," she ordered.
43"Take her far, far away."
44"Take her deep into the woods."
45And then the queen looked deep into the hunter's eyes.
46"She must never come back."
47The hunter found Snow White, and took her into the forest.
48When they reached the deepest, darkest part of the forest,
49the hunter stopped.
50"Go!" he whispered.
51"Run fast and far and don't ever go home!"
52Snow White watched the hunter disappear.
53"Well, I can't go home now," she muttered.
54She looked around at the dark and silent forest.
55It started to rain.
56"But I can't stay here either."
57"Ok feet, let's go."
58Snow White ran and ran.
59She ran across a stream, up a hill,
60and down into a dark valley.
61She ran all morning.
62By midday, her pale skin and rosy cheeks were covered in mud and scratches.
63By early afternoon her long black hair was full of sticks and leaves.
64By night, she was not beautiful anymore.
65She was tired, hungry, and shivering with cold.
66But then Snow White smelled woodsmoke in the air.
67She followed the smell and found a cottage in the woods.
68There was a warm, golden glow from the windows.
69She knocked on the door.
70"Hello?" She called out.
71"Is anyone home?"
72There was no answer.
73She pushed the door open and went inside.
74Inside the cottage were seven tiny beds,
75seven tiny chairs,
76and a roaring fire.
77A big table was covered with dirty dishes.
78Snow White was very hungry and thirsty.
79She found some bread, and ate the whole loaf.
80She found some milk, and drank the whole bottle.
81Then she sat in front of the fire to get warm.
82And just like that, she fell asleep.
83When she woke up,
84there were seven dwarfs standing around her.
85Snow White rubbed her eyes.
86"Who are you?" she said.
87"This is our house!" said one dwarf, angrily.
88"Who are you?"
89"Shhh, you'll scare her!" said another.
90"She's a giant."
91"she scares me!" said yet another.
92"Can I stay with you?" asked Snow White.
93"It seems I can't go home."
94The dwarfs whispered amongst themselves.
95"Ok," they agreed.
96"But only if you help us wash the dishes."
97"We hate washing dishes!"
98"It's a deal," said Snow White.
99And so, Snow White found a new home with the seven dwarfs.
100Every morning she washed the dishes.
101And every morning, as the dwarfs left for work,
102they said "Be careful."
103"Don't open the door for anyone..."
104"And thank you for washing the dishes."
105"We really hate washing dishes."
106Back at the castle, the queen was feeling better.
107She thought Snow White was gone forever.
108But she was still a little afraid.
109"Come and play Scrabble with me, my love!"
110shouted the King from the bottom of the stairs.
111"You can go first!"
112"Maybe later, dearest," replied the queen.
113She stood in front of her magic mirror.
114"Magic mirror on the wall, who is the most beautiful of all?"
115The mirror replied: "You are very beautiful, my Queen."
116"But the girl Snow White is the most beautiful woman in the world."
117"Snow White is alive??" shouted the queen.
118"She is living with the seven dwarfs in the forest," said the mirror.
119"Last night, she was not very beautiful."
120"But as of... 1 pm today, she is more beautiful than you."
121"Rats!" shouted the queen.
122She went to her closet and got her old coat and old boots.
123"I'll have to kill her myself!"
124She ran out of the palace, jumped into her fastest carriage,
125and sped off towards the forest.
126Snow White was reading beside the fire when there was a knock on the door.
127Knock! Knock!
128She peeked through the window.
129There was a woman holding a basket of fruit.
130The woman had a beautiful face,
131but she was wearing an old dress and old boots.
132"Fruit! Fresh fruit!"
133"apples and bananas and pears and oranges!"
134"Oh, I want some fruit..." thought Snow White.
135The woman saw Snow White through the window.
136"Hello dear!" said the woman.
137"Do you want some fruit?"
138"I have delicious apples today..."
139"I love apples..." said Snow White.
140"But I'm not supposed to open the door for anyone..."
141"those apples might be poisoned."
142"Oh, how silly," said the woman.
143She cut an apple in half.
144"Here. You can taste half, and I will eat the other half."
145"That way you know it's not poisoned."
146Snow White opened the door.
147The woman gave one half of the apple to Snow White,
148and ate the other half.
149When Snow White saw the woman eating the juicy apple,
150her mouth watered.
151She couldn't stop herself.
152She took a big bite of the apple.
153Almost immediately, Snow White fell to the ground.
154The apple was poisoned, but only on one half!
155The queen sighed with relief.
156Quickly, she got back into her carriage
157and rode back to the castle.
158When the dwarfs arrived home,
159they found Snow White lying on the floor.
160They yelled in her ears.
161They tickled her feet.
162They poured cold water on her face.
163But she didn't wake up.
164"Is she... dead?" asked one dwarf.
165"She doesn't seem to be alive..." said a second.
166And so the dwarfs made a glass coffin for their beloved friend.
167They set it on a table in a beautiful part of the forest,
168surrounded by flowers.
169Snow White lay there for over a year:
170Through spring, summer, autumn, and winter.
171One day, a prince from a different kingdom was walking through the forest with his dog.
172He saw Snow White's strange glass coffin.
173He brushed off the leaves and saw Snow White inside.
174Just then, he tripped over his dog and knocked the coffin off the table!
175Snow White rolled out of the coffin and onto the grass.
176"Oh no! Oh dear! Oh... Fiddlesticks!" the prince shouted.
177But then an amazing thing happened:
178The piece of poisoned apple that was stuck in Snow White's throat fell out,
179and she began to cough.
180The prince rushed to help her.
181"Apples..." she coughed.
182"I beg your pardon?" said the prince.
183"No.. more.. apples!"
184That night, the queen stood in front of the magic mirror and asked her question.
185"Magic mirror on the wall, who is the most beautiful of all?"
186And to her surprise, the mirror said:
187"You are very beautiful, my Queen."
188"But... Snow White is again the most beautiful woman in the world."
189"WHAAAAAAT?????" screamed the queen.
190And in her anger, she picked up a shoe and threw it at the mirror.
191The mirror smashed into a thousand pieces,
192and the magic inside it was released.
193"NOOOOOOOOOO!" screamed the queen.
194She collapsed on the floor and fell into a deep sleep.
195While she slept, the queen had a strange dream.
196In her dream, she was dancing in hot iron shoes.
197Her feet burned and burned
198but she couldn't stop dancing.
199When the Queen woke up from this terrible dream, it was morning.
200The sun was shining, and the Queen felt... different.
201The magic mirror's spell was broken,
202so she didn't feel anxious or jealous anymore.
203She felt free.
204She went downstairs to find her husband.
205She really wanted to play Scrabble.
206And what happened to Snow White?
207The dwarfs were very happy to see Snow White alive.
208They invited the prince for dinner.
209When the prince learned that nobody liked washing dishes,
210he bought them a dishwasher.
211Everybody lived happily ever after.
